GLENYS MACKLEY
About the artist
Glenys is a self-taught artist based in Christchurch who began drawing during her early school years. Always observant of the world beyond the front gate she developed a love of nature and, after returning from her OE, began painting.
Her first attempts were in oils but acrylics allowed a more adventurous approach and quicker results. Mirroring life, places and people are her main interest and a local art group continues to widen her perspective. Now retired with more time, Glenys enjoys subjects reflecting that which upholds what is intrinsic and valued. Through her art she hopes to show every moment has a story.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK
A Eureka Moment
This canvas illustrates the strong connection between people and nature which offers the freedom to simply enjoy. There is boldness and detail and an unshakable certainty in its mastery inviting us to celebrate its vital and sustaining power.
The greens and earthy shades reflect our natural world which is contrasted with crisp cobalt greens and yellows to high-light the play of the sun through the trees accentuating the shadows. These colours create a feeling of balance and harmony under a blue sky.
The painting shows the stature of trees giving prominence to a walkway for people to share, and the exuberance of a walker expressing the joy of life as he connects with nature. The value we place on our environment and the wonderful parks and gardens within our city are vital for our well-being and future.
This artwork is about the world we share, enjoying it, and those we share it with. It is about responsibility, connection and hope that in ensuring we protect our precious heritage we also safeguard our future.
